I DO NOT WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT! NOPE! YOU CAN’T MAKE ME. The only thing I want to talk about is Bethesda Soccer Club's last home game on July 8th at 6:30 pm, and how you should go. Besides that, there is nothing else to talk about. Especially not the USA TEAM SHOWING LESS HEART THAN THE AVERAGE MAN.
Onto today's games!
Argentina vs Egypt
Egypt deserves a ton of credit for reaching the round of 16. They defended well throughout the tournament, and after a nail-biting game against Australia that required penalties, they are here.
Unfortunately, their reward is Argentina.
The reigning champions have looked more and more dangerous with each match. And when Lionel Messi is playing like this, it's hard to bet against them. Argentina has too much quality, too much experience, and too many ways to beat you.
As much as I'd love another Cinderella story, I think it ends here.
Argentina 3, Egypt 1
Switzerland vs Columbia
If you told me before the tournament that Switzerland and Colombia would be playing for a spot in the quarterfinals, I probably wouldn’t have believed you (knowing my track record). Neither team has been flashy, but both have simply taken care of business.
Switzerland continues to do what Switzerland always does: defend well, stay organized, and make life miserable for its opponents. Colombia, meanwhile, has quietly been one of the most complete teams in the tournament. They won a tough group, eliminated Ghana, and have looked confident on both ends of the field.
I flipped a coin for this matchup, and it landed on tails, which in this case is Colombia. So congrats, Columbia, you win!
Columbia 2, Switzerland 1
Yesterday's record: 1-1
Round of 16 record 3-3
Overall record: 16-6
