Day 13 Knockout Round Predictions

SEE YA, BELGIUM! YOU LOST ON NATIONAL FRENCH FRY DAY!  Maybe I’m celebrating too much, but the amount of complaining they did before the USA game makes me want to celebrate even harder. Anyway, we have the last two games of the quarterfinals, so let's see if I can go 4/4!

Norway vs England

This is the matchup I've been waiting for.

Norway has been one of the biggest surprises of the tournament. After I made what is still my worst prediction by picking against them to make it out of the group stage, I've fully bought into the hype. They knocked off Brazil, and suddenly a trip to the semifinals doesn't seem so crazy.

England, meanwhile, survived Mexico in one of the toughest environments imaginable. They finally showed the resilience that English fans have been begging to see.

This one comes down to one question: can England stop Erling Haaland?

I don't think so. Plus again after the horrible prediction I have to pick them every time!

Norway 2, England 1

Argentina vs Switzerland 

Congrats Switzerland! You made it to your first World Cup quarterfinal since 1954! You beat my coinflip method (never doing that again) and defend as well as anyone, stay organized, and never make life easy for your opponents.

Unfortunately, you are facing Argentina.  I fully believe they went down 2-0 just to show the world that they can make these types of comebacks. Its the only explanation for the Egypt game. 

Every round it feels like someone asks, "Is this finally the game Argentina gets knocked out?" And every round they remind everyone why they're the defending champions. As long as Lionel Messi keeps playing at this level, it's hard to pick against them.

Switzerland will make this ugly. They'll frustrate Argentina for long stretches, but eventually the champions find a breakthrough. Plus, with VAR on their side, any goal that Switzerland scores will just be overturned!
