Top 5 Sports to Play in Snow

So, Elon got hit with a winter storm last week, and it got me thinking—what are the best sports to play in the snow? Since classes were canceled and I had some extra free time, I came up with five options I think are awesome to enjoy when the snow’s falling next year (or next week if you go to a school somewhere that it snows until June; looking at you Syracuse).
I’ve got a few rules for what makes the cut: First, the sport has to be played mostly outside, so no bowling (sorry!). Second, it has to be something you could actually play in snowy conditions—no dangerous stuff like baseball in snowstorms. And finally, I’m only picking sports I’d want to play in the snow. So, let’s dive in!
Number 5: Dodgeball with Snowballs
Throwing snow at people? Always fun. Dodgeball with snowballs would be such a blast! It’s like regular dodgeball but with the added thrill of snow—plus, snowballs are soft and most people wear winter coats with NFL-caliber padding, so no one’s getting hurt unless they get hit in the face. You get the same fast-paced action but with a wintery twist, and something about hitting someone with a snowball is hilarious. The best part is that no one can lie when they get hit.
Number 4: Hockey
If I knew how to skate, this would be number one. Sadly, I don’t. That being said, hockey in the snow would be fantastic. Something about skating on a frozen pond or rink feels so classic. Not to mention, the skill it takes to actually play hockey and this is before you add the snow into the mix. I just need to learn how to skate...
Number 3: Pickleball
Tennis is overrated if I’m being honest. Not because I’m bad at it (okay, maybe a little), but because pickleball is so much more fun. It's like tennis, but simpler, faster, and with less running. While you are sliding around, chasing a ball in the snow, and trying to stay upright your friends will probably be laughing ready to post some epic fails. It’s pure fun, and the snow makes it even better.
Number 2: Soccer
Soccer in the snow? Absolutely. Hopefully, your friends don’t flop around to try and get fouls, but if they do the snow will still cushion their fall, so it’s safe. But it’s still a challenge to score a goal. Plus, there’s something satisfying about scoring a goal on a snowy field and then taking your shirt off in celebration. You’re slipping and sliding, laughing the whole time, and it’s just a good vibe all around. Just put your shirt back on before you get frostbite.
Number 1: Football
Football in the snow is, hands down, the best. Everything about it is classic … being in the cold air, the snow on the ground, and the challenge of trying to juke your friends out and making the diving catches.. Whether tossing the ball around with friends or playing a full game, the snow adds an extra layer of excitement. I still remember tackling my friends in the snow then running to get hot chocolate because it was so cold that day. Added bonus: If you’re in college and on a meal plan, the nearest hot chocolate is only as far away as the nearest dining hall.
So there you go—my top 5 sports to play in the snow!.
