Alex Ovechkin is back! For at least one more year, the greatest goal scorer is coming back.
Hey Ovi, now that you re-signed, you wanna use some of that money to come to a Bethesda Soccer Club game!? It’s on July 8th at 6:30 pm!
I would talk about that more, but I am currently exhausted from having to do 1,000 meters on the bike as well as the huge workout I had to do. THANKS AGAIN FOR THAT SENEGAL!! Anyway, before VAR somehow ruins another game, let's get to day six of the knockouts!
Australia vs Egypt
Talk about even matchups. There is not much that separates these team. Australia is the type of team you can’t underestimate. They may not be the best offensively, but they play a system where the entire team knows their role. As soon as you make a mistake, they are ready to pounce.
Egypt, on the other hand, has been one of the tougher teams to figure out in this tournament. When they're at their best, they're organized defensively and dangerous on the counterattack. They've shown they can frustrate opponents and capitalize on the few chances they create.
This feels like one of those games that could go either way, but I trust Australia's discipline just a little bit more. Plus it will get all the people who said the United States group was a piece of cake to finally shut up.
Australia 1, Egypt 0
Argentina vs Cape Verde
Cape Verde definitely made a name for themselves. They drew Spain, which saw their goalie gain millions of followers on Instagram. They then drew Uruguay and Saudi Arabia to get second place in the group because Uruguay went from being a dark horse to getting grouped. What a great story. Their reward… they get to play the reigning champions Argentina.
Yeah sorry Cape Verde you’re not beating Argentina especially with how Lionel Messi is playing.
Argentina 3, Cape Verde 0
Columbia vs Ghana
Columbia beat out Portugal for the group. Ghana, meanwhile, have been fine. They've done what they needed to do.
That doesn't mean Ghana can't pull off the upset. They've been disciplined throughout the tournament and have found ways to stay in matches. But Colombia has looked like the more complete team.
In a close game I think Columbia pulls it off and becomes the last team to move on to the round of 16.
Columbia 2, Ghana 1
Yesterdays record: 3-0
Overall Record 11-2
