The Capitals and the Panthers are in a best of 3 now for this series and I'm here to give my insight on the series. With the five things I've noticed so far.
1: Great goaltending on both sides
I thought for sure that goaltending for both teams would be bad. The Caps goalies aren';t that experienced while the Panthers goalies are inconsistent. Boy was I wrong. Goaltending in this series has been insane and the only reason this series is tied because they are standing on their head to stop every puck.
2: Defensive adaptation
The Caps have done a amazing job besides game 4 with the defensive strategy they have built for this series. The Panthers have been adapting and trying to get around it. The Caps and Panthers are constantly punching each other in the mouth but every time they get up and say what's next.
3: Experience Matters
My name for this series was no experience vs experience. It has shown why it matters throughout the series. The Caps have the experience to bounce back and rally everyone up while the Panthers don't really have that to the extent that the Caps do. That's a reason its a tied series.
4: Game of Inches: Garnet Hathaway was a inch away from hitting the open net and making it a 3-1 series lead for the Caps. Instead he missed which lead to a Panthers goal after the puck hit him and bounced right to a Panthers player. I guess its the way hockey is.
5: Special Teams: The Panthers had the 5th best power play in the league this season while the Caps had the 23rd. Those have managed to flip flop because the Caps power play has been great while the Panthers are 0-13. Not what I expected especially since the Panthers added Claude Giroux to it.
Anyway just thought i'd give my insight. As for a prediction i'll say this...
It's a battle. The Panthers are the much better team while the Caps have no expectations. For games 1-3 the Caps dominated and even though they lost game 2 in that it still felt like they were the better team. That being said, game 4 was the first time that the Caps looked awful yet were close to winning. Tomorrow they are on the road and it's the best road team vs the best home team. I don't know what to say as a prediction except...
EVEN IF IT'S WRONG ROCK THE RED! LET'S GO CAPS
CAPS IN SIX.
