There Will Be No Undefeated Team

The Washington Commanders just pulled off the ultimate upset to spoil the Philadelphia Eagles’ perfect season. This is now the second time in three years that the Commanders have beaten the last undefeated team in the NFL and both came against teams in Pennsylvania. For those who didn't watch, here is how Washington pulled off the ultimate upset.

Dominating Time of Possession

The Commanders finally did what fans have been screaming at them to do... run the ball. Scott Turner gets a lot of criticism for his offense but after that game, I will never ever say I could call better plays. OK that’s probably a lie, but the game plan sure worked on Monday. He built an offense that plays to Taylor Heinicke's strengths, but we will get to him later. The Commanders had the ball for 40:24 while the Eagles only had the ball for 19:36. They kept the Eagles’ high-flying offense off the field while at the same time making sure their own defense was well-rested. It was incredible to watch the Commanders convert third down after third down and keep drives going. But this wasn't the only reason they won...

A defense that finally showed up

The defense has been given a lot of criticism from all sports writers and more importantly me (because who cares about the other people). Against the Eagles they finally got the game they needed. The defense went out and forced three turnovers Entering the game the Eagles had three turnovers all year. Anytime the team needed a play, they got it. While they only had one sack, for most of the game they held the best team in football(record wise) in check. They didn't commit penalties and the players weren't tired because they weren't on the field often.

Taylor "GOAT" Heinicke

Heinicke had himself a game against the Eagles and in my mind it secured his spot as the starter. He was 17-29 for 211 yards and an interception. The reason he had no touchdowns is because the Commanders ran the ball most of the time. Heinicke didn't force the ball that much in the game and instead took what the Eagles defense gave him. I’m not going to lie though, when he threw that pick in the fourth quarter I was extremely nervous. But his best play was incredible. In the second quarter, the ball was snapped over Heinicke's head and he was able to chase it down and throw it away. Instead of chucking a deep pass up for grabs, taking a sack or being called for intentional grounding, he realized a play was in trouble so he just threw it away. You know who doesn't throw that away … CARSON WENTZ.

Officials

I will make this clear... The officials were NOT the only reason the Commanders won. I will explain the calls that all Eagles fans are complaining about.

Jamin Davis Facemask: This is the one that I can agree that it was a penalty and should have been called. Davis grabbed Dallas Godderts facemask which should have resulted in a first down but it didn't and instead resulted in a fumble which then allowed the Commanders to kick a field goal.

Brandon Graham Tackling Heinicke after he gave himself up: THIS IS A PENALTY. Heinicke gave himself up and Graham still went in and lowered his shoulder right in front of the official. They have these rules for a reason and it didn't help that the hit was five seconds after the play ended.

See you next time.
