I recently got to go out to Capital One Arena for a Capitals game. This was a marquee matchup because they were playing the Edmonton Oilers, who have the best player in hockey in Connor McDavid, who was playing in his 500th NHL game. He had 722 points entering Monday night and is only 25 years old. While the game didn't go his way(LETS GO CAPS), I wanted to write why he is so fun to watch.
McDavid Is So Good
Yes, I know. The greatest player in the NHL is good. That’s the kind of expert analysis I’m here for. But watching him on TV doesn’t showcase his skills as well as seeing him in person, where you can track him across the entire ice. Every time he touches the puck, he generates a play. He's so fast that he can create something before you realize what's happening. It's incredible. In the second period, McDavid broke every Caps player's ankles on the ice and deeked past the goalie for an easy goal. When I say easy, I mean easy for him, difficult for the typical hockey player. He has excellent speed, great puck-handling skills, agility at speed, vision, commitment to development, great coaching, great physical stamina, a fast brain and fast twitch muscles, excellent recovery from exercise and injury, and great competitiveness. He plays the game at a different level.
He makes it look so simple. The guy can do things with a full-speed puck that are incredible to witness. But back to his blazing speed, it's impressive. He is the Flash on the Ice. The man is so fast that he makes Usain Bolt look on in amazement. He's got another gear or two of speed that almost nobody else has. He'll be circling with the puck, see an opening, and boom. He's gone past two defenders in the blink of an eye. McDavid glides around the ice and handles the puck so gracefully that you almost don't notice that he's doing it at a near-impossible speed.
Watch him in person if you ever get a chance because he is incredible.
